Solution to 10: To Take the Throne

With no way for you to counter or destroy Silaluk’s Dragon Throne, your best bet would be to force her to discard it. You have exactly one card that can force this discard, and that’s the Mardu Skullhunter. The trouble is that it’s already in play, so you’ll need to jump through a few hoops in order to trigger its discard ability again.

  1. Tap a plains and a Scoured Barrens for , two swamps and a Bloodfell Caves for (two used as generic mana), three mountains for (two used as generic mana), and an island for (used as generic mana).
  2. Spend to cast Act of Treason on Silaluk’s Abzan Battle Priest.
  3. Spend to activate Abzan Battle Priest’s outlast ability, putting a +1/+1 counter on itself.
  4. Spend to activate Retribution of the Ancients, removing the +1/+1 counter from Abzan Battle Priest and giving your Mardu Skullhunter -1/-1 until end of turn. Your Mardu Skullhunter becomes 0/0 and dies.
  5. Declare the start of your combat phase, assigning your Alabaster Kirin as an attacker. Silaluk has no creatures that can block it, so Alabaster Kirin deals 2 damage to her. Silaluk is now at 12 life.
  6. On your second main phase, spend to cast Timely Hordemate. When it enters the battlefield, its raid ability triggers. Choose to return Mardu Skullhunter from your graveyard to the battlefield.
  7. When Mardu Skullhunter enters the battlefield, its raid ability triggers. Choose for Silaluk to discard a card; she is forced to discard her Dragon Throne of Tarkir.
